Type 2 Diabetes
Acute Shingles
The Clinical Research Department at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center is currently looking for patients with a new diagnosis of Herpes Zoster (shingles). The shingles rash can only have been present for 72 hours or less. Patients must be willing to come in every day for the first week, followed by weekly follow-up visits for the next 3 weeks. Additional follow-up may be required. Qualifying patients will be compensated.

Atrial Fibrillation
To qualify subjects must have Atrial Fibrillation and be unable to tolerate Coumadin (warfarin). Males or females 50 years of age or older must have risk factors for heart disease or diabetes to qualify. This is a 3 year study. Patients will be compensated for time and travel.

Breast Cancer with Prior Treatment
The Clinical Research Department at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center is currently conducting a study for breast cancer patients who have received one or two prior chemotherapy treatments and have locally advanced or metastatic disease. Patients will receive either an investigational drug infusion or an already approved oral treatment. Patients will also receive study related physical examinations, laboratory tests, and CT or MRI scans during the study.

Continuing Shingles Pain
The Clinical Research Department at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center is currently conducting a research study of an investigational medication for the treatment of Continuing Shingles Pain or Postherpetic Neuralgia. If you are experiencing shingles pain that has persisted for three months or more after the disappearance of the shingles rash, you may want to receive more information about this study. Qualified participants will receive laboratory tests, study related physical exams, investigational medication and compensation for time and travel.

Heartburn and GERD
Do you have a history of GERD symptoms such as acid reflux or dyspepsia? Do you suffer from heartburn at least 2 days a week? The research department at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center is conducting a study on erosive esophagitis based on these symptoms. Males and females aged 18 to 75 that are eligible will receive study-related medical care, regular study check-ups, and study medication at no charge. This study may last up to 14 weeks and participants may be compensated for time and travel.

High Cholesterol: Men and women between the ages of 18 and 80 years old who are currently taking cholesterol medication may qualify for this study. Participants need to be taking a stable dose of a statin drug, and will have an investigational cholesterol lowering medication added to their current therapy. Qualified patients will receive investigational medication and clinic visits at no cost during this 76 week study. Compensation will be provided for time and travel.

Insomnia: Have trouble sleeping? Wake up during the night? The Research Department at Wenatchee Valley Medical Center is conducting a research study of a new medication for the treatment of insomnia. If you are between the ages of 18 and 65 and frequently have trouble sleeping and do not have any other sleep disorders such as apnea or restless legs, you may qualify. This study may last up to 26 weeks and compensation for time and travel may be provided.

Migraine Prophylaxis: The Clinical Research Department is currently enrolling patients in a clinical research study of an investigational medication that may prevent migraines in adults. To qualify, you must be 18 years of age or older and suffer from migraines. Qualifying participants may receive, study-related testing, monitoring by health care professionals, study visit and study-related health care at no cost and possible compensation for time and travel.

Multiple Myeloma
WVMC Clinical Research Department and the Oncology department are conducting a study for patients with multiple myeloma. Qualified participants cannot be a candidate for high-dose chemotherapy or stem cell transplant. Patients must have measurable disease requiring systemic therapy. Participants will be randomized to one of three treatment arms. Duration of the study is approximately 4 years.

Osteoarthritis / Rheumatoid Arthritis
Bothered by Arthritis? Concerned about Heart Disease? The Clinical Research department is conducting a research study of 3 approved medications commonly used to treat pain due to osteoarthritis (OA) or rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in people who also have or at high risk for heart disease. Qualified participations will receive study-related medical care, regular study checkups, and study medication at no charge.
To qualify you must:
*Be 18 years of age or older
*Have had osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis for at least 6 months
*Have been prescribed regular medication for your pain for at least 6 months
*Have or be at high risk for heart disease, which includes a history of
heart attack, stroke, or diabetes

Recurrent Ovarian Cancer
For patients who have had a diagnosis of recurrent ovarian, primary peritoneal or fallopian tube cancer. Participants must have recurrence > 6 months since the last chemotherapy treatment. Patients will have 6 cycles of chemotherapy, with an additional 4 cycles given as determined by the oncologist.

SWOG / PSOC / GOG / RTOG / SCCA
Wenatchee Valley Medical Center Cancer Care Center participates in multiple clinical research studies to assess the effect of investigational treatments for cancer patients. The studies are offered through affiliation with the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), Puget Sound Oncology Group (RTOG), and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA).

Type 2 Diabetes
To qualify for this study patients must be using metformin (alone) to treat their diabetes at a stable dose of 1500-2000 mg. Participants may be male or female 18 to 78 years of age, without active liver disease, kidney disease or congestive heart failure. This study will provide 24 weeks of diabetes treatment and will require 8 medical center visits. Patients will be compensated for time and travel.
